Terrorism and Violent Gangs Educational Resource
Today, the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs represents more than 7,000 deputy sheriffs. These are the men and women working the streets, jails, courts and many other positions that make up the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. ALADS also represents investigators working in the District Attorney’s Office in various capacities. While we primarily represent our members, we also find it important to give back to the communities we serve.
That’s why we publish The Dispatcher magazine, a vital resource that has been used to help raise the consciousness of the community by taking gang activity out of isolation. It has helped educators, guidance counselors, students, business leaders and the community in general become aware of and cope with gang activity. The Dispatcher has been so successful that it has been used by the Department of Justice as a teaching tool.
In recent years, we have all become more aware of another, more formidable danger: TERRORISM. It seems to unconsciously haunt us with its inevitable devastation of innocent human lives.
Some of us may be asking ourselves the following questions:
- What is terrorism?
- What happened before, during and after 9/11?
- What are the dangers of chemical and biological terrorism?
- Who is Osama bin Laden, and what is the threat of the al-Qaida network?
- What is being done to better protect me while I travel?
- What are the different types of terrorism?
- How does terrorism affect our borders and ports?
- What do I need to know about the safety of our food and water?
Through this website we hope to answer these very important questions. It is often thought that wars cannot be won if you don’t understand the enemy. We are faced with a war against terrorism. The more knowledge we as a people have, the more success we will have in preparing for and combating this enemy.
